Should I pursue sponsors that are different from everyone else in my series, or align with series sponsors?
Answered in: Get the media to talk about youThe Answer
Both strategies work but for different reasons. Getting unique sponsors (like Coke when everyone has Mountain Dew) helps you stand out and brings new money into the sport. However, if you share sponsors with the series or track, you're more likely to get featured in their media, program covers, pit parties, and pre/post-race interviews. For example, if a track is sponsored by Pepsi and your car is wrapped in Pepsi, you'll likely get more exposure at that event. Troy Lee used to put event logos on helmets specifically to get picked up by event media and local newspapers.
