How important is finishing races versus winning races for maintaining sponsorships?
Answered in: 2023 Off Road Fall Sponsorship Summit 3The Answer
According to Nate Hunt, Rob MacCachren's finishing rate is an underappreciated aspect of his success that contributes to his long-term sponsorships. Rob taught Nate that the hardest thing to do on the race course is knowing when it's just not your day and you need to settle for a finish - whether top 10 or top 5 - rather than pushing so hard you wreck or DNF. You can only race what you have, and in order to give yourself a chance to win, you have to finish first. This consistency and reliability is valuable to sponsors because it means their branding is visible race after race, championships accumulate, and the athlete demonstrates professionalism and judgment beyond just raw speed.
